Early April - Photo Update

We're coming along ...

Yipee! 

New skylight.

It doesn't have the "shower feature" of the last one - but we will just have to do without the rain in the family room!

Once the roof is completed we can really start the finish work inside.

It would have been wasted effort with leaks!

Cleaning out in preparation for floor sanding. 

I really do love this room.

The kitchen - ready to be created into something great!

New plumbing to the right , where we decided to move the sink. ( to an exterior wall - to have a window. I like a window over the sink. Of course ...there was no window there, but there is now!) 

First sanding - they already look so good!

I was so worried about the floors, that I covered them before I remembered to snap a picture. ( oops ) 

It's a good thing though - because the appliances arrived and I would not want them to have scratched it up.

More recessed lights than this space calls for, but I like a lot of light, and have never regretted adding more. 

6 recessed, a Pendant & above and below cabinet lights.

Yep - it's going to be bright! 

The new window

Tina has been working hard on making the bath beautiful.

Here we have ....

Well you know what it is :) 

Point is - it's new, and clean & taller than the original, so ... much Nicer. 

Laundry room moving along. 

Once we got to this point, we both missed the window on the right.

So... change of plan - we are going to add one more. 

Still dismantling this portion of the back "room" to create the covered porch space.

All the while ...

Mother Nature is working her magic!

( with a little help from my trusty teenage boys) 

The yard is really coming to life!

Dug up some of the cobblestones from around the yard for edging the mulch beds 

The buried patio has been resurected 

Cabinet Delivery

Thank goodness I can call in some muscle when I need it! 

Teenage boys - they sure come in handy!

I give them a ton of grief, but they really are good boys, and incredibly helpful. 

These are the same cabinets that I used in the last little house. I really like them.

They are solid wood , have soft close doors & drawers , and the best part ...

New sink that fits the space much better.

With a linen closet in the bathroom, there's really no reason to crowd everyone with a vanity. 

( especially not an ugly one!)

Getting closer ...

I know I'm going to love this spot.

After a good rain you can hear the creek out back. This is going to be such a happy retreat for someone.

Listening to the birds - smelling the wisteria on the breeze. ... AHHH

We are making good progress now & the pretty pictures will be coming soon! 

Photo update - for when there's no time for words

Besides - a picture is worth a thousand - right? 

The traditional B&W tile bath - Tina and I both love this - so I'm showing you the "before" pics just so that you can be wowed when she's done! 

She's going to make this space beautiful again - and it's already on its way ...

Ew - who caulks , on top of caulk, on top of caulk ? 

This was kind of funny,  Well -  Kind of ...

I was on the bathroom floor, with a blade scraping of the layers of caulk when Mike our plumber decided to turn on the water. 

I heard a SSSSS sound like a snake - and yelped.  "Don't worry - it's just the water filling up the lines."

Well - when it didn't stop he sent Nick his trusted partner into the crawlspace, and I started searching ....

Nick yelled back that he saw a waterfall - and before Mike could run to turn it off, 

This was what I found in the back bedroom!

I'm just glad that I happened to be sitting on the floor right by where the old copper fittings had come loose. 

Sad to make a giant hole in the plaster wall - but , we had to find it & get it straight.

Always looking on the bright side - Mike said ...

"Well, now you can say that you have all new water lines! "

Kitchen ceiling has been replaced & lots of recessed lights added 

Ahh - the roof 

This was an odd roof 

We had 3 roofers come out to give suggestions on how to handle the roof - and ultimately went with the one that suggested the most changes.

The furnace stack is gone ( thank goodness - it was rigged and barely stable) 

This flashing is shot - and water had been coming in along the chimney - had to go 

Skylight - had to be replaced obviously - and those vents were leaking 

We added a full ridge vent so that we could remove the old troublesome vents  

This is the old utility room

The concrete floor has been cut up, so that we will be able to have the plumber come and run lines to create a half bath.

The new windows are in ... 

Hard to see with the glare, but they look great 

Fireplace is well on its way to gorgeous 

Here she is with the new windows - but before the new roof 

Still working on the entry bookshelves - but what a difference already! 

Stuart pulled the wonderful old siding from the den/ family room to make an accent wall in the laundry/ mud room 

Here you can see where the previous owner had just put plywood up above,

There was no insulation behind any of the walls back here , so we had to open everything up & start over .

This is outside the porch 

This will all be open soon 

It will still have the roof, but just be s covered porch area 

I learned how to remove vinyl siding

Had to employ my boys to take a few loads to the dump

They are such good sports to help out so much!

Here is the new window in the kitchen that will be over the sink 

There was no window on this wall - but it's always nice to be able to look outside - so we added one
